DEBUNKED: 4 MYTHS ABOUT CHAIN LINK FENCES

11/16/2020

Chain link fences are a secure, versatile and affordable fencing option that can benefit a wide variety of businesses and industrial complexes. However, there are several common misconceptions about this type of fencing.

Before you dismiss them, make sure you know the truth. Here are four myths about chain link fences that are simply untrue.

1. They’re ugly
You probably want your fence to look good. After all, it’s one of the first things people will see when they approach your property. While the grey steel of a chain link fence can appear institutional and uninviting, there’s an affordable way to boost its curb appeal. Adding a green or brown vinyl coating will help your fence blend in with the natural landscape. Alternatively, you can opt for black and make it an architectural feature.

2. They rust easily
While it’s true that untreated metal is prone to rust, modern chain link fences are made of galvanized steel, which has a protective zinc coating that prevents corrosion. Simply cleaning a chain link fence with a pressure washer will also help keep it in good condition. For superior anti-rust protection, add a coloured vinyl coating. This will shield the metal from the elements and prevent weather damage while also improving the fence’s appearance.

3. They’re difficult to repair
Thanks to their rust-resistant galvanized steel, chain link fences are extremely durable. If they do need to be repaired, however, the process is simple and affordable. If any areas of the mesh are damaged due to an accident or vandalism, the affected section can easily be cut out and seamlessly replaced. An experienced fence installer can also quickly tighten up sagging mesh and straighten posts so you can get back to business.

4. They’re noisy
Solid construction and proper installation by an experienced professional will help prevent your chain link fence from clanking in the breeze. If you’re concerned about high winds, a heavy wire can easily be woven through the mesh and around the posts to prevent the metal from banging together. This is a feature that can be quickly installed by your fencing contractor along with the chain link fence.
